Sionex Joins Team of CIMIT Medical Experts in Boston Area

Commercialization Avenue for Breakthrough Disruptive Technology

WALTHAM, Mass., November 8, 2004 - Sionex Corporation, a high technology company focused on commercializing breakthrough chemical and biological sensor chips and systems based on its proprietary microDMx™ detection technology, today announced that it has joined the group of leading experts at the Center for Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology (CIMIT).

CIMIT is a membership organization with a Center at Harvard Medical School composed of leading experts from Partners Healthcare, Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital Boston, Charles Stark Draper Laboratory and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. CIMIT has a mission to improve patient care by facilitating collaboration of scientists, engineers, and clinicians to catalyze development of innovative technology, emphasizing minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy.

"Sionex's microDMx™ sensor systems will enable the detection and measurement of volatile organics, biomarkers, bacteria, viruses, spores and other biological media resulting in faster, cheaper and less complicated diagnostic protocols," said Lawrence A. Kaufman, Sionex's executive VP, "We have already successfully brought our sensor systems to market with a number of commercial companies for explosive, narcotic and chemical compounds."

Conceived at The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory and exclusively licensed to Sionex for commercialization, the microDMx™ sensor is a chip-based microfabricated technology capable of detecting a wide variety of chemical and biological compounds with great sensitivity and selectivity. Sionex is currently working with a number of companies and collaborators to incorporate its microDMx™ sensors into a wide variety of devices for the detection of chemical & biological warfare agents, explosives, toxic industrial compounds and narcotics.
