IEC Begins Shipping Sionex Products to Partners

WALTHAM, Mass., - September 16, 2004 - Sionex Corporation, a high technology company focused on commercializing breakthrough chemical sensor chips and systems based on its proprietary microDMx™ detection technology, today announced that contract manufacturing service provider, IEC Electronic Corp. (IECE.OB), has begun shipping microDMx-based products to Sionex partners. IEC, which has a 300,000 square foot manufacturing facility in up-state New York, was selected by Sionex to manufacture all of Sionex's commercial products.

"Having IEC as our manufacturing service provider brings to Sionex the ability to quickly and easily scale up our manufacturing process to satisfy our partners growth requirements," said Brian Quirk, Sionex's VP of manufacturing, "Looking forward, this ability is also essential to bring to the table as we negotiate new agreements with major companies and organizations."

Sionex has signed various commercial agreements, with the first product release using microDMx technology coming from Varian, Inc. and announced in March, 2004. Further, Sionex anticipates adding a number of new agreements with major vendors, to be announced soon. Through these agreements Sionex will provide enabling breakthrough technology to various organizations selling their products into military, homeland security, industrial, diagnostic, healthcare, food & beverage and consumer markets.
