Sionex One of Four Companies Invited to Exhibit MEMS Technology at a Briefing on "Sensors: Buildings, Battlefields and Beyond".

WALTHAM, Mass., September 29, 2004 - Sionex Corporation, a high technology company focused on commercializing breakthrough chemical sensor chips and systems based on its proprietary microDMx™ detection technology, today announced that it has been invited by the National Science Foundation and National Academies to exhibit at a briefing being held tomorrow, Thursday, September 30 in Washington D.C., on the latest developments in micro-sensor technologies. Reservation details for the briefing can be found at http://www.nsf.gov/od/lpa/events/sensors/events.htm.

Sponsored by the ACS Science and the Congress Project, ASM International and the National Science Foundation, the briefing, entitled, "Sensors: Buildings, Battlefields and Beyond", is focused on a number of different, new sensor technologies that can be used in a wide range of activities such as military use to invisibly prowl hostile territory or as wireless networks of chemical detectors that can monitor airborne pollution.

microDMx™ Detector Technology

Conceived at The Charles Stark Draper Laboratory and exclusively licensed to Sionex for commercialization the microDMx sensor is a chip-based microfabricated technology capable of detecting a wide variety of chemical and biological compounds with unsurpassed sensitivity and selectivity.

Sionex is currently working with a number of partners and collaborators to incorporate its microDMx technology into a wide variety of devices for the detection of chemical & biological agents, explosives, toxic industrial compounds and narcotics.

Commercially, Sionex provides its microDMx platforms and technology to partner companies who develop products for a wide variety of end-user applications ranging from handheld devices and control components to detection modules. The first of these partnerships to be announced was with Varian, Inc., as a detector for the Varian CP-4900 micro GC which is being used for a number of applications in the petrochemical, natural gas, environmental, and industrial markets.
