Sionex believes there are many commercial applications for its microDMx™ technology, especially in the monitoring arena. Due to the specificity of detection which comes with the technology, we can foresee its use in the building monitoring scenario.

Sensing smoke as a smart smoke detector is one application where the device could differentiate the type of combustion products based on different materials burning. Such a device could be free standing or be incorporated in the building HVAC system. As threat levels change, the microDMx™ can be downloaded with new parameters to detect additional component on an as needed basis. Upgrading a smart smoke detector to detect chemical warfare agents, explosives or other compounds could be as easy as downloading new parameters to the device.

Emission control and monitoring is yet another use which could be realized. In addition to increased sensitivity and specificity at reduced cost, the sensor chip responds in milliseconds making it ideal for feedback control mechanisms.

Sionex is engaged in discussions with a number of companies in the commercial arena which could bring end user products to market in the near future.
